Description

This is an SHO image of the tail of the butterfly nebula. At the heart of constellation Dajājah lies the bright star Sadr, Arabic for the "chest" of the Hen. The Greeks named the constellation Cygnus the Swan, and the supergiant star is also called Gamma Cygni - the third brightest star, after the third Greek letter of the alphabet, gamma.

Just 1800 light years from earth, the light emanating from the star and in the images you see began its journey when the first Mayan temples were being built.
