Description

The Iris Nebula is a reflection nebula located in the constellation Cepheus, hidden deep in the starry sky and shining brightly. Despite having "nebula" in its name, it is actually an interstellar cloud composed of a large amount of dust and gas. The bright star in the center of this photo is the +7.4 magnitude star HD200775. The dust and gas surrounding this star is illuminated, forming unique shapes and colors, hence the nickname "Iris". It is approximately 1300 light years away from the Earth and has a diameter of about 6 light years.

The photo was taken with LRGB filters, each frame for 5 minutes. Because the central star is very bright, it caused the central star and a small part of the nebula in each L frame to be overexposed. Additional 10-second L frames were later captured and finally composed into HDR.
