Description

Over the last couple of weeks, I have been slowly collecting exposure on ngc1499 while waiting for other targets to rise. I figured I had enough data on this bright object to put together an image. This part of the sky has a ton of background dust which could have done with a lot more RGB exposure time, but I am happy with how it turned out. To push the dust as much as possible, I had to clean the H-alpha and Oiii signals out of the RGB data to derive a dust-only image, which I could then use to blend without impacting my narrowband color balance.

The last time I shot this nebula with any amount of time was with my old SBIG 8300 and orion ed80t-cf. Back then it was my first apod image! Cameras have evolved so much since that photograph, and I was especially surprised to see how much more Oiii signal was apparent in this new data set with better gear. Of course, the old one I shot was from my parent's backyard, and this one from SRO at f/3.6 so it is not the most valid comparison, but oh well!

Hope y'all enjoy the photo!
