Description

M106 a.k.a NGC 4258. An intermediate spiral galaxy in Canes Venatici ~25 mil ly away. The supermassive black hole at its center with a mass of ~40 million times our sun.  Has a water vapor megamaser which is useful for observing nuclear accretion disks in active galaxies. It enabled the first case of a direct measurement of the distance to a galaxy.

Galaxies NGC 4231, NGC 4232, and NGC 4248 are also seen in the capture.

LRGB 5h (30x600s) acquired from T21 telescope a Planewave 17" CDK with an FLI-PL6303E  CCD camera, part of itelescope.net network.
