Description

Another beautiful dark and dusty nebula within the Perseus.  So many wonderful components of the image. Barnard 3 is a finely detail dark nebula with surrounding emission nebula and  reflection nebula in the left hand portion of the image. Even more, the central portion while somewhat distracted by the trinary stars system seen as the  bright star Atik, has gorgeous reflection nebula with dark nebula in and surrounding the star forming region  IC 348. Finally, the top right left and bottom right have rivulet Barnard 5  dark nebula as it  travels off the frame.

The Atik system comprises three stars approximately 1,100 light years from earth. The closely orbiting binary stars of the system are B class stars that have an orbital period of 4.4 days per wikipedia. These two stars are a mere 33 solar radii from each other. While in the near vicinity from our vantage point, IC 438 is separate from the system. IC 438 is a star forming area and open cluster  with approximately 400 stars.
