SH2-157 Deerworm Nebula / Bubble Nebula 🦂 Wide View

Sh2-157, a broad luminous nebula, contains the open cluster Markarian 50 (Basel 3), including the Wolf-Rayet star (WR 157), which is thought to have created the jaw shape of a stag beetle. The Wolf-Rayet star produces strong stellar winds, emitting about 1,000 to 3,000 km/s of gas equivalent to the Earth's mass each year. NGC 7635 (sh2-162) is known as the shell of ionizing gas that is rapidly inflated by stellar winds from hot stars. The bubble shape is formed by local shock waves caused by strong and fast stellar winds touching the interstellar medium. In fact, the bubble nebula is showing its current appearance by combining at least three bubbles. I captured this area at once with my telescope and camera. It was filmed in Incheon and Yeoncheon in Korea for a total of three days and tried to make the colors colorful.

Views by Submitters (available since September 19th, 2023) Every image is assigned to 50% of available Submitters. In the event that at least 80% of them don't view the image before its time in the IOTD/TP process expires, it's assigned to the other 50% of Submitters and the process begins anew.
