Description

Messier 5 is one of the oldest Globular clusters in the Milky Way estimated to be 12 billion years old. It's located about 25,000 light years away in the constellation of Serpens. Stars in globular clusters tend to grow old together which should have left M5 with only old, low mass stars, yet it contains many new blue stars. Astronomers think that these late forming young stars, called blue stragglers, were created either by collisions between stars or other stellar interactions. About 10 hours total integration time using my AT8RC at 1625mm FL.
