Description

NGC 2035, also known as the Dragon's Head Nebula, is a colourful emission nebula and a stellar nursery located roughly 170,000 light-years away in the constellation Dorado. It resides within the Large Magellanic Cloud, one of our Milky Way's neighbouring galaxies. Discovered in 1826, this nebula boasts an apparent size of 3 arcminutes, appearing bluish-white in colour. NGC 2035 is part of a complex of nebulae and stars, actively forming new stars within its giant clouds of gas and dust. The nebula's name, the Dragon's Head, comes from its resemblance to the head of a dragon.
