Description

IC443, usually known as the Jellyfish Nebula, is a supernova remnant in the constellation Gemini at a distance of about 5000 light years from home. This remnant is quite extended - larger than the full moon -  and its age is still undetermined, being estimated from 3000 to 30000 years ago. IC443 is in a complex environment, with super massive (and short lived) stars as well as clouds of molecular gas. The differences in density in this molecular cloud give the nebula its appearance.
