Description

M108 is a type Sbc barred spiral galaxy situated about 46 million light years from Earth. One of its vernacular names is the Surfboard Galaxy, and given its orientation and visual aspect on can see why. This galaxy has a supermassive black hole at its center, estimated to be 24 million times as massive as the Sun. Several X-ray sources have been discovered in this galaxy, some of them suspected to be intermediately sized black holes that are actively accreting material (sources: Wikipedia, NASA)

M97, also known as the Owl Nebula, is a planetary nebula at about 2030 light years from Earth that happens to be in the same FOV in this frame. Its estimated age is around 8000 years. The nebula is rich in several materials including hydrogen, helium, oxygen and sulfur. This makes this nebula a rich narrowband target, but it is shot hear with LRGB broadband filters. This object presents a faint outer halo, quite prominent in OIII. While I did capture some data with this filter and I can start to see the signal, I've opted for a more balanced processing that does not try to include it (sources: Wikipedia)

Broadband from the city remains a huge challenge, this image was helped by fairly long total integration time and lots of post processing. Conditions were average.
