Description

The Sadr region located within the constellation of Cygnus is an area of rich nebulosity about 4,000-5,000 light years from Earth. The Butterfly Nebula (IC 1318), upper left, is shaped by stellar wind, gravity, and magnetic fields with dark dust clouds covering the emission nebula in the background.

This is a synthetic color image designed to highlight the different gaseous and dusty structures where the Sulfur II data is mapped to the red channel, Hydrogen Alpha to the green, and Oxygen III to the blue to produce an RGB image. The mixture of Hydrogen Alpha and Sulfur II is shown as yellows and oranges depending on the ratio of the mixture.
