Description

This image was taken over four (very long) nights in early April 2024 with an ASI2600mm Pro through a Celestron 8" EdgeHD with a 0.7x focal reducer on an EQ6-R Pro mount.

The image comprises:

SII:      58     x    180s
Ha:      48     x    180s
OIII:     59     x    180s
R:        10     x     120s
G:        10     x     120s
B:        10     x     120s

Total integration time was nine hours and 15 minutes. The image was captured with APT, processed in Pixinsight and tweaked in Photoshop.

It's still galaxy season, but the summer stars are rising in the early morning sky, offering a tantalizing chance to capture objects in Sagittarius and Scorpius ... if one can tolerate staying awake until dawn (which was a lot easier when I was younger).

I had tried M16 last year, but wasn't happy with the results, having waited until June to start capturing data and then being interrupted by Arizona's monsoon season.  I am much happier with this year's results.
