Description

IC 417 is an emission in Auriga. This has been one I've worked on over a few months and I would have shared it sooner if the weather didn't conspire against me . I would have done a purely LRGB image but could not due to a lack of sufficient data. I also had luminance data on this target, but it was so low and suffered from gradients, I chose to toss it out. However I ended up sinking a lot of time into gathering Ha data and this provided a solid backbone for the image. I've wanted to do these star rich regions with background Ha emissions for some time, and for me, the diffraction spikes on the brightest stars really adds a lot of depth to the image. Perhaps next season I can revisit this object and sink more time into broadband data to make the blue gas globules more prominent. This will wrap up my winter nebula targets for this season as we are now in galaxy season. Feedback is appreciated of course and until the next image, clear skies.
