Description

Quick test of my new scope! In terrible conditions, of course! The Moon was very bright and only about 10 degrees away from Sh2-261. I used the Askar DNB filter to minimize the Moon's impact, but I did get some odd artifacts around the edges (cropped out of this image), that appear to be coming from internal reflections.  I won't really know for sure until I can get back out when the Moon is out of the way - but clouds and rain are in the forecast for the next week.

High clouds came in right after I started, and hung around most of the way through. The data was pretty rough-looking overall and normally I would not have spent much time with it, but I suppose it's good to know what the scope can do in the worst conditions.

The good news: in the uncropped version, stars looked nice and round out to the corners!

Sh2-261 was discovered by father-and-son team Harold and Charles Lower in 1939.
