Description

IC342 - The Hidden Galaxy. Located 7M LY away in the Constellation Camelopardalis - the Giraffe.

Viewed through the plane of our Milky Way this large, face-on, starburst spiral is partially hidden by our galaxies molecular dust and stars.
While determined not to be a member of our Local Group of Galaxies it would be a prominent target, at about one third the size of Andromeda, if visible outside our Galactic Plane.

The blue sub exposures were clearly weakest. The final result shows the how much the blue arms of the galaxy have been attenuated and reddened by the obscuring dust - they appear flocculent and opaque. I chose not to alter the R G B data ratios and left it quite golden. Processing was very much an exercise in unhiding the golden galaxie's hidden treasures.
