Yet another tug of war between my processing skills and the horrid coma on my copy of the Samyang 135mm f/2 lens Truthfully, the amount of coma on this lens is really ridiculous, and I'm not the most fond of the idea of stopping it down because I really don't like diffraction spikes (with the exception of Newtonian spikes, I really like those for some reason), so I'm probably just gonna return the damn thing and take a leap towards an actual astrophotography-dedicated refractor. There goes my wallet once again. Getting StarXTerminator to remove the stars near Andromeda with the worst central coma I've seen from this lens anywhere was a pain, and I spent a good two nights trying my best to process this. I finally managed to get it done, with a LOOOOOT of clone stamping, and this was my final result. A crisp 7 hours on M31, half from Bortle 3, half from Bortle 4. I wish I could get more of the fainter halo to come out, but that'd probably need near perfectly dark skies and 20+ hours of integration, and that's not feasible for me, so I'm gonna call it quits here. I'm still quite glad I was able to get the brighter parts of the outer "Andromeda halo" though!

Description: The deep, maybe too deep, blacks that I had in my original upload had an odd effect on the eyes that I felt made the image a little less pleasing to look at, so I decided to upload a revision featuring less harsh of a histogram stretch, with less deep of a background.

Views by Submitters (available since September 19th, 2023) Every image is assigned to 50% of available Submitters. In the event that at least 80% of them don't view the image before its time in the IOTD/TP process expires, it's assigned to the other 50% of Submitters and the process begins anew.
Promotions by Submitters When 3 distinct Submitters promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for Top Pick status. This requirement, in addition to anonymization of images and distribution to only a subset of them, prevents biases and ensures that the best images are selected.
