Sunspot (20230802) - ISS Transit rehearsal

10 days ago I could capture the Sun for the last time. Today I tried it despite a mostly cloud covered sky and thus many passing clouds or even totally obscured sky between my setup and the Sun. I felt urged to reassure my setup and preparation is solid and good enough for THE EVENT scheduled for tomorrow (20230803):

Solar ISS Transit with a comparably big ISS appearance at an angular size of 55.94″ (almost one arcminute!).

I used to look for ISS Transit in front of the Moon or the Sun for about two years. And I checked Transit Finder for almost a year now for any transit not too far from here and of course high enough in the sky, thus observable it above our mountains.

Tomorrow (20230803) is the day and these are today's predicted parameters for tomorrow:

    Thu 2023-08-03, 14:23:47.27  •  Sun transit
ISS angular size:55.94″; distance:493.91 km
    azimuth: 208.2°; altitude:57.4°
    visibility path width: 4.92 km
    Transit duration:0.68 s
    transit chord length: 31.5′

Tip:GIF animation ot how it should look - mind the running seconds!

The ISS is rather close to the Earth at only 493 kms. Thus, the whole transit only lasts for 0.68s while being high up at 57.4°. My chances are 50:50
  • and of course I am so excited if the Sun is freely visible in a big enough deep blue cloud hole!

  • So, you see here my today's image. Can you imagine how happy I would be to get this same result quality tomorrow again but with 8 to 13 ISS 'stamps' along it's path?

Pray for me, guys, I need some very fine experience!

  • All chances are always 50:50 - either you get the goal ... or not.

Title: ISS Transit Simulation

Description: To visualize the tomorrow's ISS solar transit (20230803-142347h CEST) not far from my place, I prepared this GIF animation with "stellarium", recorded by "vokoscreen", converted to GIF by"ffmpeg"..
