Description

Last Thursday,  despite the first quarter moon and the light pollution at my backyard (Bortle 7, 20km from Paris) the seeing and transparency conditions were rather good so I decided to image a quite challenging object.

The Integral Sign Galaxy in Camelopardalis (UGC 3697) is a very thin edge-on spiral with a warped shape, probably due to the gravitational interaction with a companion galaxy, UGC 3714.

The field contains also several very distant galaxies, including the  galaxy cluster Abell 565 at redshift z=0.105, or 1.4 billions l.y. away (top left corner).
