Description

M93 is an open star cluster in the Puppis constellation, around 3380 light years from earth.

The cluster was discovered by Charles Messier in 1781 and hence is commonly referred to as object number 93 in his observation catalog. What’s perhaps even more interesting is that it’s also believed to be the first object Caroline Herschel (generally considered to be the first female professional astronomer in history) chose this as the first deep sky object in her observation career. The sheer beauty of the cluster does make it an appealing target for both visual and photographic observation, even today.
