Description

NGC 6914 is the blue area in the bottom left of this image. It is a reflection nebula about 6000 light years away in the constellation Cygnus. I'm not sure why I framed it to be so far to the bottom left - probably should have raised it up a little but I guess I became entranced with the surrounding nebula. I  find it interesting how important a good DBE is in Pixinsight and how tricky it can be with a dense nebula like this. I ended up using just a few (about 8) sample radius boxes with a size of 68 when processing this image. More numerous smaller sample sizes tended to wipe out some of the surrounding nebula. I find now that I must experiment with several different settings in DBE - varying the sample radius size, number of samples, location of samples, tolerance, shadows relaxation and smoothness. Each of those settings can make a big difference in the end product. I do not feel that I have a solid grip on all the subtleties of DBE yet but I recognise that I must take my time to get it right .
