Description

NGC2818 is a planetary nebula in Pyxis. While it appears to be part of the surrounding open star cluster (NGC2818a), this is just the product of a chance alignment. Looking closely ,  I would assume that the cluster is closer to us than the nebula itself, which is approximately 10,400 light years from us and with a radius of about 3.25 light years. The progenitor star is obscured by the outer shells of gas that the star ejected.
