Description

M5 is a globular cluster in the constellation Serpens, discovered by Gottfried Kirch in 1702. Sure, it's neighboring buddy M13, the Great Hercules cluster is wonderful, but some amateur astronomers swear M5 is the finest globular cluster north of the celestial equator for small telescopes. I will soon post a new M13 image taken the same night so you can compare! I think they are both awesome sights!

The bright star at top right is 5 Serpentis, a Variable Double Star in Serpens.
