Description

Hello friends ! What a clear night... I spent last night observing and imaging until 2:30 am, and of course, I'm paying for it now... Anyway, here is one of my deepest shots yet. I imaged Abell 39, or ARO180 planetary nebula in the constellation of Hercules. Abell 39, or the Soap Bubble nebula, is located some 7,000 light years from Earth, and is a superb example of a planetary nebula. The blue central star glows brightly in this image at magnitude 15.4. The nebula itself is listed at magnitude 13.7. The nebula represents one of the last stages of a star's life, when it sheds off the outer layers of it's solar atmosphere into space, and forms, as in this case, a wonderful, blue bubble of gas. Rasa 11" F2.2 with ZWO 533 MC Pro camera @ -10c, gain 110, with an Optolong L Pro filter. Whopping 34x5 minutes for a total of 2.83 hours of integration time. Enjoy !
