Description

NGC 1499 is an emission nebula that has a very low surface brightness and is difficult to observe visually. I have never seen it visually [bucket list].

The California Nebula contains a hot blue-white star named Menkhib (also designated Xi Persei), by far the brightest star in this image. Menkhib is one of the hottest stars visible in the night sky.

Menkhib is part of an association of  hot stars that were born only a few million years ago. These luminous stars are lighting, heating and ionizing the nebula.

I processed this with the same data as my other image taken with the AT60ED [see other images]. I used Bill Blanshan's scripts with HOO processing / masks and Russ Croman's BlurX and Noise X. These methodologies have transformed post-processing for me.
