Description

Don't Call It The Northern Trifid (Sh2-222).  Perseus may be the most underrated constellation for astrophotography.  It's hard to beat Cygnus or Orion for spectacular showpiece targets, but the more I learn about astronomy, the more I appreciate Perseus for its array of unique, colorful gems.  Here, inspired by Bob Rucker's superb image, I've captured Sh2-222.  Some, understandably, call it the Northern Trifid, but rather than a pale imitation of that southern stunner, Sh2-222, with its distinctive peachy hue, asserts its own identity and exudes unique charm.  With limited focal length and nearly unlimited light pollution, I didn't capture quite the amount of detail of Bob's shot, but I thoroughly enjoyed dwelling on this unique target, in another successful Bortle 8 broadband project.
