Description

The Andromeda Galaxy also known as Messier 31 or M31, in constellation Andromeda is a spiral galaxy about 2.5 million light years away. It comprises of about 1 trillion stars compared to our Milkyway which only has about half a billion stars. Andromeda and Milkyway are on a collision course moving towards each other at 70 miles per second and expected to collide in 5 billion years forming the Milkomeda Galaxy. The Andromeda galaxy is bright enough to be visible with unaided eyes on a dark moonless night. In this rendition, you can see lanes of dust and gas where stars are born - look for the newly born stars. You can also see two companion galaxies M32 (or NGC221) to the right center and M110 (or NGC205) top left. Total exposure time about 3.2hrs.
