Description

Normally viewed as a big "E", east of Antares, this dark nebula looks more like a cross between a horse and an elephant. Orientation is rotated 90 degrees clockwise from what we usually see. This nebula was clearly visible with the naked eye at the time of this image. M13 over also seen unaided overhead.

The Original was processed in PixInsight with only Background Neutralization. The Final image was processed using Dynamic Background Extraction. I think that both versions have their subtle strengthens and weaknesses.

The final final version enhances the Milky Way and reduces the star size. This resembles an abstract painting. Too much post-processing maybe but it still nature's work of art.
