This image was generated, first by downloading the R,G and B fits images of M42 from the HST legacy archive. The images were:

ORION (hlsp) ACS/WFC R hlsp_orion_hst_acs_colorimage_r_v1_drz
The images were registered to my EdgeHD 9.25 M42 narrowband image (
http://www.astrobin.com/77948/, see insert, reduced ). Then an RGB image was constructed of the registered, cropped and down-sampled HST files. The HST composite RGB image of M42 was not available for some reason. This image was converted from RGB to greyscale, and with a few adjustments in PS, used as the luminance layer on top of the tone map (color, no stars) from my EdgeHD M42 narrowband image (
http://www.astrobin.com/77948/ ).
