Description

This image focuses on the beautiful crater Plato and the area to its east and south. Plato is a large (109 km) lave-filled crater. To its right is Rima Plato, a long and narrow depression (probably an ancient lava channel). The large depression to the right is Vallis Alpes, which cuts through the Montes Alpes mountain range. Below Plato lies the northern edge of Mare Imbrium, probably a hugeand ancient impact site. It has a few lonely mpuntains and small mpuntain ranges, such as Montes Teneriffe (left) and Mons Piton (borttom right).

Seeing conditions were 5/10. Image taken on July 6, 2014.
