Description

This faint remnant is odd in its distribution of hydrogen, oxygen and sulphur.  While the hydrogen and sulphur signatures are nearly identical and "bulbous", oxygen  is asymmetrical and displays a more concentrated  double  "shock wave" structure.   This SNR has not been imaged often, or studied in depth by visual astronomers.   More extensive radio astronomy studies indicate its age is 3800 years and distance is ~10,000 l.y.   It lies near the border of Auriga and Gemini.   I really struggled with this object over the past 2 months because it is extremely dim;  more details kept appearing as I added more time, so it was hard to stop !  Since no common name for this object has appeared, I suggest it be called the Flatiron SNR.
