Description

The Pinwheel Galaxy is the 3rd large member of the Local Galaxy Group (Andromeda and MilkyWay Galaxies are #1? and #2). It is large enough to be seen as large as the Full Moon, but is dim enough because it is face-on that it can only be hinted at out of the darkest skies with well-adapted averted vision. Studies of the shape and activity of M33 show several distinct spiral arms with numerous active Star-forming Nebulae (pink'ish). These are likely the aftermath of the Galaxy's ancient brush with it's larger sister Andromeda.
