Description

Lovejoy C/2014 Q2, M45 conjunction, featuring Albebaran and NGC 1647

This beautiful, blazing comet will not return for another 8000 years. Think about that. Think about what 8000 years means. Everything in the sky exists on a cosmological scale that we, as humans, do not even begin to grasp. Ponder for a minute about how far human civilization has advanced in just the last measly 100 years. Then try to think about what 8000 years means to our species. And yet, to this icy king of the sky, 8000 years is just another phase of it's life. Just another loop around a star called Sol. I am humbled and honored to be able to capture this beautiful facet of the cosmos.
