Description

IC 5068 is an emission nebula that is actually part of the same complex area of nebulae that includes the Pelican and North AMerican nebulas . It actually looks like the area the Pelican is standing on in extra wide angle photos ergo the name " The Pelicans Rest ". This entire area is beautiful in wide angle photos with red nebulae contrasted by the predominantly blue stars as well as many red stars , dark nebula and a hint of reflection nebula (blue). The nebula is very faint visually but obvious in timed exposures . This image is a combination of 25 - 200 second exposures thru an Edge HD 11" on a CGEM DX mount using Hyperstar lll lens , an ST 8300C camera and IDAS LPS filter . The moon was approx. 1/2 phase and in the west while the target was located in the east / northeast sky . Nebulosity 3 was used for image acquisition , color processing and stacking . AA 4.0 was used to white balance enhance color saturation and resize for web use. PhdGuide 1.4 was used to guide an ST 80mm refractor and Orion autoguider thru the Nebulosity 3 program .
