Description

M44 is one of the closest open cluster of the Sun : It is 600 Al far. There are 1000 stars in this cluster and red and white dwarf stars have been detected (30 % of the population for red dwarfs).

In this image, the apparent magnitude of faintest stars is around 17. Brighest blue stars are A spectral stars (6.4 mag) and are visible with naked eye.

It's not enough to localize red and white dwarfs stars, it would require a bigger telescope to be detect.

Instead, a " bernard's star like" with an absolute magnitude of 13 shoud have a magnitude of 19.6 at this distance. It's too weak to be detected with my 80 mm refractor, but it should be detectable with a 10" telescope !

Note than astromers has found 2 exoplanets in the Cluster : Pr02010 & Pr02011. These are the first exoplanets (Jupiter like planets which orbits close to their star) found around "sun like" stars. These stars are both visible on this image !!
