Description

This object is a face-on spiral galaxy located 85 million light years away in the constellation of Eridanus at a declination of -14 degrees. The bright ring spans 1 arc-minute in our apparent view, which corresponds to a diameter of 25,000 light years. The much broader diffuse extent of the galaxy is about 160,000 light years in diameter.

I like the distinct dark lanes and bright blue star clusters of this galaxy, as well as the color contrast between the yellowish core and the bluish arms. The galaxy above right (PGC 933903) lies much further away at about 500 million light years.
