Description

I was pleasantly surprised last night when I was able to image this rare Herschel find of NGC 3196. I managed to capture one of the faintest lenticular galaxies from his entire catalogue. The galaxy's high

radial velocity suggests it to be at a distance of 675 million light years away.

The Herschel No. is III 348 in the constellation of Leo at Mag 14.9 with a size of 0.3 'x 0.2'.

I saw the issue of Sky & Telescope April 2015 edition which lists a very detailed great article from one night of imaging by Herschel and thought well maybe I can try to do some of his imaging as well.

My only problem with my mission happened to be the cirrius clouds that parked itself in all night after my first 4 3 minute subs. So what I have is all for now and I will try again tonight to capture this elusive faint fuzzy one more time.

I may go back and attempt to crop in this area of the sky near NGC 3196 to see if I can bring out more inner detail.
