Description

This planetary nebula is commonly called the Blue Planetary or The Southerner. It is quite tiny at only 12' across and appears as a small oval shape with no appreciable detail in the nebula. The addition of Ha and Oiii did not add to the image in any way, so I have posted this LRGB version. The progenitor star is not readily visible due to the very bright nature of the surrounding nebula. While fairly non-descript, the PN is best known for its intense electric blue colour which makes it worth imaging.
NGC3918 is located in Centaurus and is estimated to be 4,900 light years away.
