Eta Carinae (LHaRGB)

Shot taken during my trip to Namibia in May 2015.

Thanks to Marc who has lend me his beautiful and sharp Borg77ED f/4 scope !

Some issues with the blue channel : stars far bigger than on L, R and G (halos)

Ha shot in bin 2, because of guidance issues (max. 5min subs acceptable)

Version A to D do not include Ha data.

For image E, Ha bin2 was blended to L bin1 (using a max. mask between the two channels) to boost Ha into the luminance channel.

Preprocessing details (Pixinsight 1.8) :

StarAlignment only (no bias/darks used for calibration, dithering made the job !!)

ImageIntegration : winsorized sigma clipping, sigma low=4, sigma high=3

Processing details (Pixinsight 1.8) :

- For linear stage : crop all channels, make RGB, extract background on RGB and L, Background neutralization + ColorCalibration on RGB, HistogramTransform on both RGB and L

- For non linear stage : compress histogram to prevent from saturation with HDRMultiscaleTransform (6 layers) on both non linear L and RGB, Apply L to RGB with LRGBCombination, Remove green remanent with SCNR, Make StarMask and reduce stars with MorphoTransform (morphological selection 0.2, only 1 iteration), Make LHE mask with PixelMath, Apply LHE, Apply DarkstructuresEnhancement script, Adujst histogram and curves (saturation and contrast)

Submitted The date and time when you submitted this image for IOTD/TP consideration.	...
Views by Submitters (available since September 19th, 2023) Every image is assigned to 50% of available Submitters. In the event that at least 80% of them don't view the image before its time in the IOTD/TP process expires, it's assigned to the other 50% of Submitters and the process begins anew.
Promotions by Submitters When 3 distinct Submitters promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for Top Pick status. This requirement, in addition to anonymization of images and distribution to only a subset of them, prevents biases and ensures that the best images are selected.
Promotions by Reviewers When 3 distinct Reviewers promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for IOTD status.
Early dismissal Staff members have a lot of images to inspect on a daily basis, and they can dismiss images if they believe they don't meet the requirements for IOTD/TP selection. If an image is dismissed 5 times, it's removed from the process. This streamlines the process and ensures that any bias present in promotions could be overruled by other staff members.
