Description

A sunspot, almost as large as the Earth, surrounded by swirling magnetic field lines. A large filament of hot material is being carried out of the active region by these magnetic field lines.

Along the limb (the "edge" of the Sun) spicules, thousands of kilometres in length, give the limb it's characteristic "fuzzy" edge.
