This is a second attempt at M13. I spent some time on the tripod and fixed one of the broken supports. I also tightened all the legs and the whole thing felt quite a bit more stable. I also did a drift polar alignment. My reward was longer sub-frames, in general.

Look at revisions: the first is the longest sub-frame at 122s! The second revision is the stacked data, but uncropped so you can see the coma.

Revision C was produced with RawTherapee+GIMP. Revision D used StarTools for everything of substance. A significant curvature correction applied in StarTools might be preventing this revision from plate solving.

I use the bulb option on the Canon 20D, so some of my sub-frames are not all the same length. I grouped the 3 longest into a set of 3, 88s exposures on the technical card instead of entering all the sub data in. Up to revision D has 19.2min total exposure. Revision E added a lot more data up to 48m of total exposure.

In DSS, I chose 2x drizzle to try and improve the image. Post processing I worked RawTherapee, then GIMP. I should be getting StarTools license in the email soon, so I'll probably do another revision again.

Version E used StarTools on the longer data-set, however I was too aggressive. There are these giant halos around the stars, though the noise is squashed down.

In Version F, I've backed off the filtering stuff in ST and kept it a little more subtle. I also found a (B-V)=0.63 star in the image and some web-based information that this color index is pretty close to a G2V star.

Views by Submitters (available since September 19th, 2023) Every image is assigned to 50% of available Submitters. In the event that at least 80% of them don't view the image before its time in the IOTD/TP process expires, it's assigned to the other 50% of Submitters and the process begins anew.
Promotions by Submitters When 3 distinct Submitters promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for Top Pick status. This requirement, in addition to anonymization of images and distribution to only a subset of them, prevents biases and ensures that the best images are selected.
Promotions by Reviewers When 3 distinct Reviewers promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for IOTD status.
Early dismissal Staff members have a lot of images to inspect on a daily basis, and they can dismiss images if they believe they don't meet the requirements for IOTD/TP selection. If an image is dismissed 5 times, it's removed from the process. This streamlines the process and ensures that any bias present in promotions could be overruled by other staff members.
