Description

This face-on spiral galaxy is located 40 million light years away in the constellation of Cassiopeia at a declination of +48 degrees.  It is a bright magnitude 11 galaxy that spans 2 arc-minutes in our apparent view, corresponding to a diameter of only 25,000 light years.  I find the diameter to be unusually small for such a galaxy structure.

I like the unique look of this galaxy.  It is colorful, with bright blue star clouds, pink II regions, and an overall odd yellow fog/glow.  The inner section is somewhat flocculent, although its spiral nature is still evident.  The outer shape of the inner shape looks like a hexagon, so I have included this galaxy in my Hexagon Collection.
