Description

This 3 panel mosaic spans from the galactic plane at the top, down to the south celestial pole at the bottom of the image. The brighter blue star at the centre bottom is Sigma Octantis (Polaris Australis). As you scroll down through the image you'll first pass the Dark Doodad nebula, then through the Chameleon Molecular Clouds. Overall a very picturesque region of the southern skies, albeit quite faint.

As ever, I'm looking forward to shooting this region again in the future. Just out of frame at the top is the Coal Sack nebula, the Running Chicken nebula, and a bit farther up to the Southern Cross.
