Description

Running man.

NGC 1973, 75, and 77

Added 2.5 more hours to this for a total of 6.5 and I think we'll call it first light with the Edge HD 11". Did a better job processing with careful attention to star integrity. You might be questioning the framing as the main nebula is off center to the north. I did this because I wanted to include that dark nebula in the south. The image thusly contains major sections of emission, reflection, and dark nebula.

The Orion constellation is crawling with some of the most beautiful structures in the night sky and Running Man suffers from living in the shadow (almost literally) of the Great Orion nebula, M42. If it were in a less exciting area of the galaxy it would surely be a jewel of a target for photographers in its own right.

The red is gas that's being excited by radiation and emitting its own light. The blue is opaque dust that is reflecting star light. The brown is that same opaque interstellar dust that's not being brightly illuminated by nearby bright stars.

Many thanks to Joe Bruessow for working out a deal on the telescope. It's going to be the start of a long and beautiful friendship.
