Description

BL Lacerta object 1ES 2344+514 with the host galaxy visible. The bright spot is not "normal" light, this is synchrotron radiation from electrons in the relativistic jet generated by matter falling into the supermassive black hole at the center of the galaxy. There is also a theory that the radiation is associated with the generation of axion-like particles and their subsequent conversion into photons.

The BL Lac object here is at about V magnitude of 15.5. The faintest objects in this field are V=20.5
