Description

31.1 million lightyears from Earth and 30% the size of the Milky Way, the Sombrero Galaxy is a popular near edge on elliptical galaxy with a vast dust ring. Earth was about 2 million years into the Oligocene Epoch when this light left the Sombrero Galaxy. The beginning of this epoch includes a notable extinction event called the Grande Coupure, in which European fauna was replaced with Asian fauna for the most part. At this time the Earth was beginning a cooling phase that would last for around 6 million years until the La Garita Caldera eruption.
