Description

Mars in the early hours of Sun 6 Sep 2020 AEST.

Re-learning my Mars processing techniques as opposition approaches. Worked on revised wavelets and post processing workflow this weekend with a goal of achieving a more natural telescopic look for future captures. Seeing finally cooperated on a gibbous Moon night with our satellite only 5° degrees away from the Red Planet. With the ADC and Meade 2x Barlow in the train I am imaging at F35 which is very sensitive to focus. Initial half hour proved to be a throw away as I was trying to set focus on a 50% resized feed rather than a full scale preview.

This view combines 17 stacks taken between 3:02 and 4:10 am Canberra time. It shows Mars' Valles Marineris hemisphere which appears very murky with the ongoing dust activity in Argyre Basin (grayish area north of the SPC). Solis Lacus or 'the Eye of Mars' is rising in the west and in the far north Nilokeras albedo feature is about to cross the terminator. Aurorae Sinus and snail like Agathodaemon / Tithonius Lacus are prominent at the disk centre.
