Description

The Panther mount I use is alt-az, so during data capture of IC 417 I needed a "fill-in" target while IC 417 transited "Dobson's Hole". NGC 2309 looked interesting, if smallish for 900mm focal length.

I was a bit surprised at the red signal, especially since I tossed so many of the H-a subs for quality issues. It could use more color work, but then again I'm the kid who flunked Art Class in the 3rd grade. Still, I'm happy with this first effort. Decided not to use StarXTerminator on this one, just did a Minimum Blur filter in Affinity Photo.

Title: NGC 2309 Revised

Description: Practicing PixInsight skills on old images. Shot this one in February 2022. Instead of using LHE, my first attempt with MLT.

Title: Spiral Galaxy NGC2903 in Leo Revised

Description: A minor touch-up of old data. Experimenting with the LAB color space and tweaking the B channel. Tried out Unsharp Mask. Also decided that this field required no star reduction.

Title: Revised NGC2903

Description: Two year old data, but lots of new tools to use on it. And hopefully new skills ;-)

One big lesson here - I challenged my belief that Luminance data did not help in the processing of my star fields, it would only dilute the color.

Well, another old belief bites the dust. Adding the Luminance data back into the RGB star field not only added more "pop" to the stars, but it really did not hurt the color. A minor Curves adjustment and the color was fine.

I'm not going back to shoot Luminance data for my old images, but I will shoot it from now on.
