The Ghost Nebula is a reflection nebula in the constellation of Cepheus. This was a real challenge for me. I used the longest exposure time I have ever tried for the subs on this faint object. I hope you enjoy seeing it, I had fun doing it. I will probably tweak the processing. I wanted to get more RGB and Lum data but the weather is not co-operating and the Moon is now in the way. I might get some more data next month.

Description: Corrected the color, got rid of the magenta that covered everything. Made the nebula a bit smoother and less grainy. Fixed the background color to something a little more neutral then the bluish that it was.

Description: I have learned enough new things to redo the Ghost Nebula. It is less noisy with better color and has fewer residual gradients and it and the stars are crisper. I think this might be done.

Description: Was never fully happy with my first version of this. I knew there was a bit more in there i could bring out. GHS made that an easy thing to do. I did not have much color before and the stars; in fact the whole image was sort of flat. It is better now I think.

Views by Submitters (available since September 19th, 2023) Every image is assigned to 50% of available Submitters. In the event that at least 80% of them don't view the image before its time in the IOTD/TP process expires, it's assigned to the other 50% of Submitters and the process begins anew.
Promotions by Submitters When 3 distinct Submitters promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for Top Pick status. This requirement, in addition to anonymization of images and distribution to only a subset of them, prevents biases and ensures that the best images are selected.
Promotions by Reviewers When 3 distinct Reviewers promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for IOTD status.
Early dismissal Staff members have a lot of images to inspect on a daily basis, and they can dismiss images if they believe they don't meet the requirements for IOTD/TP selection. If an image is dismissed 5 times, it's removed from the process. This streamlines the process and ensures that any bias present in promotions could be overruled by other staff members.
