Description

Yesterday I tortured my Skywatcher Maksutov (Skymax 180) again, well actually I tortured the mount, not the telescope.

Now that I've paid attention to the working distances behind the reducer, the distortions have gotten a little smaller. But the stars are not quite round yet, because I still have problems to achieve a good guiding with this trumpet. In terms of weight, the ZWO AM5 should be able to handle this, but despite the reducer, I have an effective focal length of approx. 1900mm according to the image analysis, which unfortunately the AM5 can no longer track that precisely.

The picture was exposed for 150 minutes at full moon, I had to keep the individual exposures short because of the imprecise tracking. No filter was used (only UV/IR-cut, which doesn't count as a filter for me).

I'm already reasonably satisfied with this picture, of course there's enough room for improvement.

Pictured here is Messier 27, the Dumbbell Nebula. According to Wikipedia, it is about 1300 light years away and was created by a red giant that shed its shells at the end of its life cycle - it is therefore a so-called planetary nebula (as you know).
