First light Image of Rho Ophiuchi with the Redcat

Description

This first light and latest image from GrandMesaObservatory.com at Purdy Mesa in Western Colorado during the month of May over 3 nights in less than average seeing conditions was taken using a new scope that we are pleased to be testing by William Optics.

The new and fast RedCat 51 APO currently being tested with the QHY128C Full Frame One Shot Color CMOS which is almost as big as the scope 😉. Our weather conditions have been very poor lately but as this is a very wide field scope it’s very forgiving and so far I’m very impressed with the results. We will be posting a mini review of the RedCat shortly.

The Rho Orphiuchi Cloud Complex is one of the most beautiful and active star forming regions in the night sky with so many types of objects such as open and globular clusters, dark, reflection and emission nebulae.

Total Integration Time 5.3 hours.

I have photographed Rho Ophiuchi quite a few times and here are a couple of my earlier images.
